Zones 5, 6, and 7: Here I come!
It’s mid-March, and my garden is calling to me! This year, my two outdoor gardens are unifying and expanding, and now I have identified and charted 11 growing zones and am excited to see both what comes up and what’s to go in. The next task at hand is to clear the dried leaves out of zones 5, 6 and 7, re-seat bed fencing and border rocks, sharpen up the edge lines of the beds, and mark existing plantings (now starting to poke up through the soil) on the garden chart. (Really, I was supposed to finish this work a week ago, but mothering two elementary school children and attending to my soil-less garden diverted my attention for a bit…) OK: Out I go into the fresh air, gloves on, rake in hand, hoping my lovely husband will discover lawn-and-leaf recycling bags somewhere in the basement…
