Mosquitos Gettin’ Sexy in The Great Swamp
This past Sunday morning, I took an early-morning “field trip” with two other co-creative friends to The Great Swamp in Chatham, NJ. What a magical place! (I’d not been before.) While we were hiking through, we came to a spot that left quite an impression on me — in more ways than one. (Yes…the bites still itch.)
In a sheltered area, there was a pool set down a small incline, so that the ambient light was dim and the water was incredibly dark. Walking down the little hill to the edge of the pool, I felt like I was walking into a womb — I felt a close, intense, life-giving energy surronding me. After few moments at the water’s edge, I realized that scores of mosquitos buzzed around me, and it was clear that they were thriving in this sexy, womb-like space. I politely gave them some of my blood (actually, they took it, but it feels better to say that I offered it in some way), and I knew that my blood would give the mosquitos more procreative action. It seemed right. This place was teeming with creative energy, and so why should I expect that the mosquitos wouldn’t invite me to be a part of their jiggy dance? After a few minutes, I left this spot, leaving the mosquitos to their reproduction and sexy time. And, I took away souvenirs from my visit on my belly and right leg. Every time the bites itch, I remember that intense time witnessing mosquitos gettin’ sexy in The Great Swamp. It’s a pretty great memory.
