Hosta Flower Power

There’s a hosta in one corner of my garden that has suffered in past years. Soccer balls land on the early shoots, or little feet trample and break the larger leaves, or some creeping creature has a large lunch and there goes half the plant. This year, it’s thriving — no doubt in part because the rain-rain-rain has kept the kid creatures out of the back yard for much of the Spring. As a result, it has sent up a glorious stem in the past week. Since I rarely get the opportunity to spend quality time with the healthy version of this plant, I see the emerging flowers as strong, magical, and powerful.
